Murray Altman-Kaough

I paint in oil and acrylic, primarily figurative compositions and landscapes with elements of magical realism. My work celebrates aspects of the divine feminine and our human interconnection with the natural world as our source of beauty, healing and personal power. I’m inspired by nature, dreams, pattern and color, and my paintings are attempts to express mental or emotional states. Images can sometimes say what’s harder to convey with words. My figures often have surreal or magical elements, but they are also firmly grounded in the natural world. Recurrent motifs include female figures, the sky, birds, animals, landscapes and plants, boundaries often merged as an expression of their indelible interrelatedness. My paintings are really love letters to the wild - inside each of us and also “outside” in the larger world. I hope you find a little magic in them!
